Around Christmas time, some people enjoy cooking with the family and having treats like oatmeal chocolate squares. We’ve heard these delicious bars are good even with a cup of hot cocoa. Have a Merry Christmas!
INGREDIENTS
CRUST
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
1 cup softened butter
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla
3 cups Oats
1 cup chopped walnuts
FILLING
12 oz chocolate chips
15 oz can condensed milk
3 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preparation
Sift dry ingredients. Cream butter and sugar
until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Mix in
flour, then oats and walnuts. Spread half the mixture
into buttered 9x13 pan.
Make filling: heat 15oz can sweetened condensed milk
in saucepan, add 12 oz chocolate chips and 3 T butter to melt. Remove from heat, add teaspoon vanilla.
Pour onto oat mixture with spoon, drop remaining oat mixture over chocolate. Bake 20-25 minutes at 350
degrees. Chill and refrigerate overnight to chill
completely.
